About mindfulness based stress reduction

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction is an 8-week intensive mindfulness training program that fosters greater awareness, acceptance, and presence to the natural unfolding of our lives. This group helps us to meet what we feel in our bodies, minds, and hearts with curiosity and gentleness so that we learn to relate to difficult experiences in a new way and open to the joys of ordinary living. MBSR training teaches participants to become aware of our auto-pilot conditions and stress reactivity. As a result, we may feel a greater sense of peace, clarity, wellbeing, and balance.

MBSR consists of 8 weekly 2.5 hour sessions and an all day retreat between session 6 and 7. Participants will receive guided instruction on various mindfulness practices including sitting and walking meditation, the body scan, gentle movement, and additional meditation practices. The practices and overall group experience are deepened through inquiry exercises, dialogue, practice materials, and daily home assignments.

Two decades of research demonstrates that the majority of people who complete the course report:

  • Reductions in pain intensity and an enhanced ability to cope with chronic pain or illness
